A decade later, Adam Neuronine’s neural net activated. Inside Adam’s skull, flush and smooth against the contours of the crumpled cortex of the brain, a fine-weave nano-net shimmered with illuminated activity. Then each cross-woven corner extended a minuscule needle into the flesh of his brain, impregnating the top layers of neurons. The net scintillated again as low-frequency electric pulses from the needles’ tips triggered groups of neurons to fire. The synapses activated in a pattern that coalesced into the familiar shape of digits, glowing red.
